Columbarium at the Miłostowo cemetery in Poznań

The aim of the project was to create a columbarium at Miłostowo in Poznań. Currently, there is a cremation facility and two urn fields at the cemetery. In my work I present an architectural proposal for a columbarium, its interiors and a new arrangement of urn fields. The upper part is based on a circular plane. It is the result of current layout of the cemetery and the symbolism of circle. The circles have one point of meeting and there are situated on the same axis as the larger urn field and the smaller part of columbarium that is built on a triangular plane. There are two entrances to the building – one from the cemetery side and the other from a path that leads to Warszawska street. The whole construction is open, so that daylight can reach it. It was also placed in a way to symbolize the transition to the world of the dead. Another aim of the project was to tidy up the area of all unnecessary objects. As a result I created alcoves in the walls with special concrete inserts. The concept of columbarium at Miłostowo was to give it a monumental and solemn feeling just as the topic of death has.
